Joy Moore:First Voices” KPFA Apprenticeship Program instructor, phone room supervisor, guest host “About Health,” Outreach Committee member. former Local Advisory Board member, gardening and cooking educator

Dear KPFA Staff members,

Joy Moore

I’m Joy Moore, and I’d appreciate your vote for a staff seat on the Local Station Board.

I teach in the First Voice Apprenticeship Program, supervise the pledge room during fund drives, and guest-host on programs like “About Health.”  I’ve been around this station doing one thing or another for thirteen years.  I’ve also served on the Local Advisory Board (forerunner of the Local Station Board), so I’m well-prepared for this duty.

The most important thing I want to do on the Local Station Board is to help create a more peaceful, productive environment on our board.   I’d like to discourage the tendency toward factions, and be a bridge between different groups so that the LSB can work as one.  We’re going to disagree sometimes, but we have to learn to disagree respectfully.  Our listening audience is aging and I want to help us attract younger listeners.

A little bit more about me: I’m a retired outreach worker for the Berkeley Public Health Department. I’ve studied at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, and Berkeley City College. I currently teach gardening and cooking for the Berkeley Unified School District.   I’m active in the food justice and affordable housing movements.

If you’re on staff, you’ve probably seen me around the station. If you don’t know me already, look at my picture at the top of this article  and then please say hello next time we pass in the hall!

Peace,
Joy Moore
