I would LOVE to donate to KPFA but now that Pacifica has basically FIRED the morning show crew, i don’t how or what to support anymore.
Do the staff at KPFA have any say over what programs are allowed to aire on KPFA or is this a dictatorial decree from on high telling staff (and the audience) what programs are politically correct?
Get the Morning Show back up and you’ll get my financial support again. Until then, i’m in limbo.

The staff at KPFA has pretty much been in total control over programming for several decades. There’s problems with that because people are basically in charge of their own jobs. Sometimes it works out fine but when it doesn’t, it can be a disaster. In my opinion, the best way to make programming decisions is with a representative program council. We had one at KPFA once. It included many members of the paid staff and some unpaid staff, some department level managers and some listeners. This is the way to keep programming fresh and have some accountability.
In terms of the Morning Show, it came down to a financial decision. Unfortunately, many on the paid staff choose to see it as a personal attack and went into public protest mode. In the future there should be collaborative decisions with staff, management and listeners on major changes. Will this happen? I believe we are headed in that direction. But the money part is tough right now.
